Lee Calderwood

I am married to Ellie with 2 children we live on a smallholding just outside Y Ffôr. Originally we had intended to farm herbs for culinary purposes, but I became more interested in their medicinal use.

Having spent 20 years in the RAF flying Search & Rescue helicopters, I decided to have a change in career. After 5 years of study I gained my degree in Phytotherapy (Herbal Medicine) from the University of Wales in 2004.

Ellie and I set up Perlysiau Llŷn Herbs to produce organic herbs for medicines and also quality products under the "Petha' Pur" brand in an outbuilding on our farm - drop in if you're passing.

Alongside the herbs we have a small flock of pedigree Lleyn Sheep and, in my spare time, I enjoy sub-aqua diving, reading and, in 2003, ran the London Marathon for Children with Leukaemia - NEVER AGAIN!

I believe herbal treatments can work well alongside orthodox medication and are particularly effective in chronic conditions such as eczema, while the holistic approach of considering lifestyle and diet can also make a great difference.

Our practitioner has completed a 5 year honours degree course in herbal medicine (Phytotherapy) with the College of Phytotherapy, awarded by the University of Wales.

Llŷn Herbs offers a professional, confidential herbal medicine service in relaxing, purpose-built surroundings.

Working to guidelines set by the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and the College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy, full confidentiality and a caring approach are guaranteed.

Modern herbal medicine, Phytotherapy, is based upon the scientific use of plant medicines which formed much of a doctor’s drug cabinet 100 years ago.

By combining scientific research, ancient wisdom and modern testing techniques, a patient is considered as a whole during an initial 1 hour consultation which examines areas of diet, lifestyle and overall health.

Phytotherapists work alongside orthodox treatments, concentrating on the patient as an individual and not a series of symptoms. Simple physical examinations can be performed and, if required, a patient may be referred to the family doctor or a specialist for further tests.

Herbal medicines are prescribed mainly in the form of teas, tinctures or creams. They are either prepared from plants growing on our farm or sourced from companies employing the highest quality control and testing standards.
